Because quartz worktops are constructed fundamentally differently to granite and other solid stone examples, there are an array of options to choose from.

Generally, granite is cut to incredibly accurate degrees using water jet technology and diamond wire and diamond blade saws, which are used to hew the raw shape from the initial slab of granite material. After this, our granite and quartz worktop specialists refine and hone the shape into the polished and attractive final product that you receive.

With our quartz worktops, they are made of a combination of roughly 90% crushed natural quartz and then shaped and set using 8-10% resins, polymers, and pigments. It’s the availability to use pigmentation in the construction that gives us the nearly limitless selection of colours that are available, instead of relying on the natural availability of certain colours of granite and stone.

Additionally, depending on how the quartz is ground, we can achieve different looks. For example, finely ground quartz produces a smooth and consistent finish. Coarsely ground quartz will give a flecked and textured appearance, whilst still maintaining the smooth surfaces of the worktop, thanks to the resin.

Professional quartz worktops

Our worktops are highly scratch resistant and will withstand years of usage without suffering any negative effects to their appearance. This is because of something called hardness, which is measured by the Mohs hardness scale.

Typically a steel knife blade will be around 5 – 6.5 on the scale, whereas quartz sits at roughly seven. This means that it would actually be difficult to mark the quartz surface, because it’s harder than the knife itself. However, to ensure the longevity of your surfaces, we always recommend using a chopping board.

Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust, meaning it is accessible with relative ease. In addition, it does not require a lot of processing to make it ready for usage. This means that not only will our worktops provide you with fantastic results, but is also an exceptional and environmentally friendly option.
